Brief History of the GEN 7 Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T®)
The Combat Application Tourniquet was initially fielded by USSOCOM in 2004 then fast followed by conventional forces in 2005. In the early years of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) and prior to the implementation of modern prefabricated tourniquets, the death rate from extremity exsanguination was 23.3 deaths annually. After full implementation, this number was reduced to 3.5 deaths per year, an 85% decrease in mortality. In 2005 the Combat Application Tourniquet was selected as one of the Army’s top 10 greatest inventions and is recognized as one of the foremost advancements in pre-hospital care during the GWOT with an estimated 1,850 lives saved.
Relentless comprehensive analysis of all deaths from extremity hemorrhage has resulted in evidence-based tourniquet improvements. This approach has yielded critical device improvements to include five refinements in the design of the Combat Application Tourniquet over the last decade. These enhancements were focused on maximizing the effectiveness of the device while minimizing morbidity.
Continuous interface with end-users and researchers, literature review and tourniquet applications in both real world and simulated high stress tactical environments have made it clear, that despite tremendous success, tourniquet knowledge gaps exist in the following areas (1) single verses double routing of the band (2) Importance of slack removal prior to engaging the windlass. Closing these gaps will be accomplished through device enhancements, knowledge products and focused training.

The C-A-T Tourniquet is what I carried in the military and am most familiar with, but the C-A-T, SOFT-T, and the newer ratcheting or tactical tourniquets are must-haves in any IFAK. I keep one in my home, car, and double-up on them (any style) in my range bag. Great quality and no shipping issues.
I purchased the Overlander First Aid Kit. I then purchased three C-A-T Tourniquets and three 4/5" NAR Compressed Gauze. The kit with these items will allow me to handle more patience with extremity bleeding. The C-A-T Tourniquet is what I carried in the military. I am very comfortable with this style and confident they will complete the mission.

I am new to tourniquets, and i wanted to get a solid and reliable one for emergency use. I really like the ease of use and staging for the CAT tourniquet. I am really happy with my purchase.
I got it early in the mail compared to the predicted day it was going to arrive! Feels like a quality product, have yet to use it in the field/medically, hopefully I won’t have to.
The most important thing is that this is a real CAT. What I had in my kit originally I got a “good deal” on. As soon as they were side by side the difference is instantly noticeable. Don’t waste your dollars trying to save pennies for something this important.

There are plenty of these out there on the web, but i don't trust those other stores. Chinese knockoffs proliferate the market. I trust Medical gear outfitters and won't but from anyone else.
The tourniquet itself is great, but the shipping/packaging should be improved. I ordered 2, one black and one blue. The black one took a week to ship and was sent separately from the blue one. I’m not sure why they would break up the order, it seems easier to just send them together. Also the packaging is this paper envelope full of tiny little fibers and paper flakes. Opening it is horrible because these flakes get all over the place, even when carefully opening the package.
The product is great, I would just improve the packaging!

I picked up a couple orange CAT tourniquets for our summer everyday bags. Also restoking some booboo items.

I ordered 10 different items to make up three trauma bags to have at our church just in case. Thankfully we haven't had the need to use them but we are prepared if the need arises. Our next step is we are going to offer training to our congregation from some of the trauma staff from our local hospital.
Is the best tourniquet around. There's a reason it is basically the industry standard. I got the bright orange for ease of finding/seeing. Could not recommend it more.
If storing on the outside of a MOLLE system, would strongly recommend getting a pouch/holder.
